Japanese Electronic Parts Makers Cash in on Robust Car Market


Japan Aviation Electronics Industry, Limited (JAE) posted sales of ¥33.1 billion, an increase of 5 percent on the year, from products for the automotive market, in the first half of FY2017. In particular, sales of connectors for the automotive market in Europe and other countries in Asia grew, increasing 6 percent on the year. Sales of products for automobiles in the User Interface Solutions (UIS) business also steadily increased.

Nichicon Corporation targets a yearly double-digit growth in sales of automotive components in the medium to long term. The company aims to increase the sales ratio of automotive components from 18 percent at present to over 30 percent by expanding new product lineup of aluminum electrolytic capacitors. The company plans to double the sales of film capacitors by FY2019 by expanding film capacitors for EVs and HVs. The company will endeavor to expand sales of aluminum electrolytic capacitors that accommodate high temperatures, have high ripple capabilities, vibration resistance, long life and large capacitors, and to integrate inverter smoothing film capacitors for EVs and HVs to a greater number of vehicle models.

Hokuriku Electric Industry Co., Ltd. saw higher orders for various components, including module products, resistors and sensors for automotive use, which drove the increase in consolidated sales. Sales ratio of components for automobiles increased to 38.3 percent. The company plans to increase the ratio up to 50 percent in FY2018.
